BUCKS COUNTY – January 8, 2020 − State Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) announced the award of $25,000 in grant funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s (PDE) Teacher in the Workplace (TIW) Grant Program to Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 (Bucks IU).
“Sound investment in our education system is crucial to building strong communities throughout our commonwealth,” Senator Santarsiero said. “Fortunately, Bucks IU is able to deliver a multi-faceted approach to education by incorporating professional expertise, technological enhancements, and other innovations within the classroom.”
The $25,000 that Bucks IU received will allow them, as a local education agency, to enable educators throughout Bucks County to interact with local employers and learn the skills and industry trends that will enhance their classroom instruction, student learning, and career readiness.
Bucks IU operates as a regional service agency to provide cost-effective, management-efficient programs to public and private K-12 schools, school districts, and the community of Bucks County. They serve more than 96,000 students in over 270 schools, with more than 9,000 educators, and address traditional and emerging needs to increase access to and quality of education throughout Bucks County.
The Teacher in the Workplace grants from PDE are funded through federal money made available through Title II, Part A, of the Every Student Succeeds Act and from L&I through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act. Eligible applicants include local education entities, businesses and chambers of commerce, labor organizations, postsecondary institutions, community-based organizations, public libraries, trade associations, and economic development entities.
