DOYLESTOWN, PA — State Senator Steve Santarsiero outlined an ambitious legislative agenda for the coming session during a legislative coffee and conversation at the Central Bucks Senior Activity Center in Doylestown on April 14.

Speaking to a room full of seniors and local politicians, Santarsiero spoke first about his legislative agenda and then fielded questions from the audience on a wide range of topics, from the Central Bucks School District to the issue of PFAS.

More Than $1.5M in State Funds Announced for Multiple Bucks County Improvement Projects

Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and Representative Perry Warren (D-31) announced $1,527,051 in state funds from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Local Share Account Statewide Program for community improvement projects based in Lower Makefield Township, Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, and Yardley Borough.

Newtown borough to get funding for pedestrian and cyclist safety

Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and Representative Perry Warren (D-31) announced today $192,594 in state funding for pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements along Frost Lane in Newtown Borough.

The award is a state Multimodal Transportation Fund grant through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which will be used to construct 1,230 linear feet of sidewalk to provide shared bicycle and pedestrian spaces on Frost Lane and the borough’s sidewalk network.

Lawmakers Introduce Bill To Modernize Pennsylvania’s Equal Pay Law

HARRISBURG, PA — To mark Equal Pay Day on March 14, State Senators Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and Maria Collett (D-12) are seeking to close the gender wage gap by re-introducing legislation to modernize Pennsylvania’s Equal Pay Laws.

Women in Pennsylvania currently earn 79 cents for every dollar paid to men, according to the lawmakers. This amounts to a gap of more than $10,000 every year, they said. The gender wage gap can be traced to multiple factors, including occupational segregation, bias against working mothers, and direct pay discrimination, the lawmakers said.

$207K In Grants Going To 15 Lower Bucks Fire Companies

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA —More than $200,000 in grants are being doled out to 15 fire departments and EMS units in Bensalem Township, Levittown, and Yardley and its surrounding communities.

State Sen. Steve Santarsiero, (D-10), said the grants from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner are offered annually for a wide variety of projects relating to equipment, training, debt reduction.

$1.8 Million Awarded To Bucks YMCA In Support Of Teen Programs

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties has received $1.8 million in state funding to support and grow Empower U and Stand-Up, two programs that empower and serve the needs of area teens.

Yardley Borough Police get funding for new vehicle

State Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) presented a check to Yardley Borough Police Chief Joseph Kelly for $68,600 for the purchase of a new police vehicle and motorcycle during a visit to the station.

“Our police put themselves on the line every day to keep our community safe,” said Sen. Santarsiero. “Dating back to when I was a Lower Makefield Township Supervisor more than a dozen years ago, I have advocated for funding to support the important work our police do on a daily basis to keep our community safe. When Yardley Borough Police Department identified the need to replace aging vehicles, but lacked the funding to do so, I was happy to work with the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to secure funds to cover the costs.”

YARDLEY, PA —The Yardley Borough Police Department has some new wheels to help fight crime.

Police Chief Joseph Kelly III was presented with a $68,600 check for the purchase of a new police vehicle and motorcycle. The check was from a station visit by state Sen. Steve Santarsiero, (D-10), earlier this week.

$50,000 Grant To Assist Solebury With Carversville Flood Control

SOLEBURY TOWNSHIP, PA — The village of Carversville, hit hard by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021, will benefit from $50,000 in state funding that will help pay for a project to mitigate future flooding issues.

“After touring the damage and speaking with township staff, Solebury Township shared a plan for dredging and excavating part of the stream, which will help control future flooding from storms,” said Senator Steve Santarsiero in announcing the funding on Tuesday. “As we continue to see more severe weather from climate change, it is more important than ever that we support our communities with flood control projects like the one Solebury Township is implementing.”

$500K Grant Awarded To Doylestown Township Recreation Center Project

DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Doylestown Township has been awarded an additional $500,000 in state grant funding for the Doylestown Township Community Recreation Center. The award was announced by State Senator Steve Santarsiero.

Pa. Senate GOP use first election hearing to ‘restore trust’; Dems say it’s a ‘sham’

A Republican-led state Senate committee on Thursday held the first hearing in its investigation of Pennsylvania elections.

Sen. Cris Dush, R-Jefferson, started the session by saying the election investigation is not about former President Donald Trump or changing the results of the 2020 election.

Lawmakers announce $271K for traffic improvements in Newtown Borough

Newtown Borough will use the funds for a complete upgrade to the traffic signal at Lincoln and Washington Streets. Along with the modernization of the traffic signal, the project will include new pedestrian accommodations.

Rockhill quarry: DEP grants extension for asbestos tests; residents decry ‘disingenuous’ ‘delay tactic’

The state Department of Environmental Protection has granted the owner of the Rockhill Quarry more time to conduct environmental testing of the property, where asbestos was found in 2018.

Last week, the DEP partially accepted Hanson Aggregates Pennsylvania’s request to extend its deadline from July 6 to Oct. 29 to conduct certain environmental and health studies related to the asbestos. But Hanson still faces a July 6 deadline for a host of other requirements, including an explanation of its plan to remove 500 tons of material from the site every year.

Kayden’s Law passes Pennsylvania State Senate; legislation now moves to State House for consideration

BUCKS COUNTY >> The State Senate on June 24 passed landmark legislation that supports say will save children’s lives.

Senate Bill 78, also known as Kayden’s Law, is legislation that will provide urgently needed reform to Pennsylvania’s child custody statute.

Kayden Mancuso, in whose memory the bill was named, was a seven-year-old from Lower Makefield Township. In August 2018, her biological father brutally murdered her during an unsupervised weekend visit.

PA Senate passes Kayden’s Law, mandating judges put child safety first in custody judgments

A bill aimed at making a child’s welfare and safety a primary concern in custody disputes passed the state Senate on Thursday.

Senate Bill 78, known as Kayden’s Law, would require judges to consider criminal convictions in custody disputes and recommends courts across the state implement child and domestic abuse training for judges and court personnel.

It passed in a 46-4 vote.

PA Fairness Act introduced to prohibit discrimination of LGBTQ+ individuals

In order to extend protection from discrimination to LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians, lawmakers in the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus unveiled the PA Fairness Act.
H.B. 300 is sponsored by Reps. Dan Frankel and Jessica Benham, both D-Allegheny, along with Reps. Malcolm Kenyatta and Brian Sims, both D-Phila. If passed, the PA Fairness Act would prohibit discrimination against an individual based on their sexual orientation or gender identity or expression in the commonwealth, providing a long-overdue update to Pennsylvania’s law.
