BUCKS COUNTY – October 21, 2026 − Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) along with Representative Shelby Labs (R-143) announced today $3,891,000 in state funding for a water distribution interconnect PFAS project in Plumstead Township.

Approximately 5,400 feet of 12-inch ductile iron water main with fittings, approximately 336 feet of high-density polyethylene pipe by horizontal directional drilling, and 22 12-inch gate valves and valve boxes will be installed.  Ten fire hydrants will also be installed to improve system operation and fire protection.  The planned connection and consolidation of the two systems will provide more consistent system pressures, reduce occurrences of low-pressure conditions, and improve overall operational performance.

Low-pressure conditions can negatively impact customer service, firefighting capability, and the overall reliability of the water distribution system.  Operational and resiliency challenges associated with maintaining two separate public water systems will be resolved.  The measurable PFAS contamination concern identified will also be resolved.

“Investing in our water infrastructure is essential to protecting our communities and ensuring residents have access to reliable, high-quality drinking water with adequate water pressure,” said Sen. Santarsiero. “I’m proud to support this funding for Plumstead Township to consolidate its water distribution systems, improve water pressure and consistency for thousands of residents, reduce energy consumption, and resolve the PFAS contamination concern. Low water pressure is not only inconvenient for residents – it can make it harder for our firefighters to do their job. This investment will help better meet the water needs of our community for years to come.”

“Water infrastructure projects are expensive, and our communities need resources to address these issues without placing the financial burden on local residents,” said Rep. Labs. “I’m pleased this grant will help the township make necessary improvements and address concerns that affect the people who depend on this system every day.”
