Santarsiero, Brennan-Backed Water Treatment Project in Buckingham Township Granted State Funding

BUCKINGHAM TWP − July 17, 2025 – State Sen. Steve Santarsiero and state Rep. Tim Brennan, both D-Bucks, today announced a $2,057,063 grant to Buckingham Township from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (Pennvest) to build a new PFAS remediation system at the Hearthstone water treatment facility.

The project will include construction of a new building to house the system, whose management will be tied into the main control system that provides combined treatment for the affected water wells. Pennvest also approved a low-interest $615,089 loan to the township for the project.

“Clean, safe drinking water is a constitutional right of all Pennsylvanians,” Santarsiero said. “Buckingham Township has made great progress in remediating contaminants found in its drinking water, and this grant will help fund critical system upgrades to keep the water supply healthy. I applaud Rep. Brennan’s leadership in working with Buckingham Township on this issue, and I’m excited to continue working with him to ensure that all residents in our community have access to safe drinking water.”

“PFAS contamination is a serious concern in our region, with real health consequences for families. It’s important to get solutions in place immediately,” Brennan said. “That’s why we worked proactively to get state financial support for this project, which lowers costs for Buckingham Township. People deserve the cleanest, safest drinking water we can deliver, so we took fast and definitive action for all of our residents.”

“Our township is a leader in providing safe drinking water to our resident customers,” Buckingham Township Board of Supervisors Chairman Maggie Rash said. “Our staff works diligently to stay ahead of the curve, continuing to upgrade systems to remediate contaminants, and we appreciate the support and guidance from Rep. Brennan to secure this grant.”

The new system will bring PFAS levels of treated water into regulatory limits, significantly reducing health risks associated with PFAS contamination in drinking water.

Santarsiero, Davis Announce State Funding for Armstrong Middle School Solar Project

HARRISBURG, May 21, 2025 – Sen. Steve Santarsiero and State Rep. Tina Davis today announced a $400,000 state grant awarded to the Bristol Township School District for the Armstrong Middle School Solar Project. The funding, provided through the Solar for Schools Grant Program, will help lower energy costs and support renewable energy use at Armstrong Middle School.

The Solar for Schools Grant Program, established in July 2024, aims to reduce the financial burden of installing solar energy systems in educational institutions across Pennsylvania. Eligible entities include school districts, intermediate units, charter schools, technical schools and community colleges. Funding may be used for the purchase and installation of solar equipment, permit fees, energy storage and utility interconnection.

“Projects like the Armstrong Middle School Solar Project show how public schools can lead the way in clean energy innovation,” Davis said. “Not only will this grant help lower energy costs, but it also provides an educational opportunity for students to learn about sustainability and the importance of environmental stewardship.”

“This state investment in solar for Armstrong Middle School highlights Bristol Township School District’s commitment to energy efficiency and fiscal responsibility,” Santarsiero said. “I applaud Governor Shapiro’s cutting-edge approach to alternative energy, and I am excited to see Bristol Township implement a solar program that will lower costs for the district and for taxpayers.”

The grant was awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency that administers economic development and energy programs, including the Solar for Schools program.

Davis represents the 141st District, comprised of Bristol Borough and Bristol Township in Bucks County.

Santarsiero represents the 10th Senatorial District comprised of Bristol Borough, Bristol Township, Buckingham, Chalfont, Doylestown Borough, Doylestown Township, Falls, Lower Makefield, Morrisville, New Britain Borough, New Britain Township, New Hope, Newtown Borough, Newtown Township, Plumstead, Solebury, Tullytown, Upper Makefield and Yardley in Bucks County.

Senator Santarsiero on Bucks County’s Voluntary Mitigation

BUCKS COUNTY − March 14, 2020 − The following statement is attributable to Sen. Steve Santarsiero (D-Bucks) in response to Governor Wolf’s announcement to add Bucks and Chester counties to Montgomery and Delaware counties where he has ordered voluntary mitigation efforts:

“It is clear from state and federal health officials that the most powerful tools to combat the spread of the Coronavirus is for each and every one of us to restrict all nonessential social contact and maintain frequent personal hygiene routines.

“While I firmly believe all nonessential businesses should be ordered to close or work remotely, right now the Governor has requested those businesses to voluntarily close or work remotely which makes it unfair for the businesses that do abide by that request when others do not.

“For that reason, I strongly urge all nonessential businesses and individuals to do their part to stop the spread of the disease so we can protect our most vulnerable family, friends and neighbors.

“As of yesterday, I have closed my district offices in Newtown and Doylestown and my staff is serving constituents by phone, email and social media.

“These efforts are inconvenient and may seem extreme, but I am convinced they are necessary to avoid a dramatic increase in cases that could overwhelm our healthcare system, putting the most vulnerable at great risk.

“We are still on pace for an exponential rise in cases; the only way to change that is to act now to limit as much social contact as possible.”
