Update from Harrisburg

Announcement of State Climate Action Plan

Senator Steve Santarsiero
Senator Santarsiero joined Governor Wolf, cabinet officials, fellow legislators, and environmental advocates in announcing Pennsylvania becoming a member of the U.S. Climate Alliance and the rollout of SB 600.

At a press conference in Harrisburg on April 29th, I joined Governor Wolf, Senator Haywood (D-4), Representatives McCarter (D-154) and Comitta (D-156), and other officials to express our support for SB 600, HB 1195, and to announce that Pennsylvania has become a member of the United States Climate Alliance.

The U.S. Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Led by state governments, the alliance seeks to accelerate the deployment of climate solutions to help each state achieve its climate goals. Passing SB 600 and HB 1195 is critical if we are to reach the climate goals of the U.S. Climate Alliance and protect our environment here in Pennsylvania.

As we continue to work together, I know we can address climate change, create thousands of family-sustaining jobs, and make Pennsylvania a top producer of clean, renewable energy.

Holocaust Remembrance Resolution

“Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust" Remarks
Senator Santarsiero’s floor remarks on designating April 28 through May 5, 2019 as “Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust.”

I’m proud to have introduced a resolution designating April 28 through May 5, 2019 as “Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust” in Pennsylvania. At a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise across the nation, we must stand united against all forms of bigotry and hate.

A special thank you to Brenda Quinn and the Epilepsy Foundation Eastern PA - EFEPA and Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA for visiting me at my office in Harrisburg. $1.5 Million State Grant Awarded to Doylestown Borough

Senator Santarsiero with Representative Ullman and local officials at a press conference announcing the state grant award
Senator Santarsiero with Representative Ullman and local officials at a press conference announcing the state grant award.

I want to thank Representative Wendy Ullman (D-143), Doylestown Mayor Ron Strouse, Chalfont Mayor Brian Wallace, Doylestown Borough Council President Jack O’Brien, Central Bucks Regional Police Chief Karl Knott, Heritage Conservancy COO Linda Cacossa, acting PennDOT Maintenance Manager for Bucks County Kevin Herdin, and other local officials for joining me to announce the award of a $1.5 million grant for the new Doylestown municipal complex through the commonwealth's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). From the onset of the project, Rep. Ullman and I worked together to secure the RACP grant.

I know that for decades this project was just a dream, but come December ground will finally be broken. Once completed, the complex will include a new Doylestown Borough Hall, Central Bucks Regional Police Department headquarters (serving Doylestown, Chalfont, and New Britain), and a new municipal park.

I look forward to working closely with Doylestown Borough and the entire Central Bucks community in developing the next steps of this project.

Senator Art Haywood (D-4) and I toured the Exact Solar facility in Newtown with owners Mark and Dana Bortman to highlight the need for a diverse energy industry in Pennsylvania. SB 600, a bill Senator Haywood and I have written along with Senator Tom Killion (R-9), will increase renewable energy standards in Pennsylvania to 30% by 2030, with a goal to create 75,000 family-sustaining jobs, and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment for generations to come.

What is REAL ID?

Beginning October 1, 2020, Pennsylvanians will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, photo ID card, or another form of federally-acceptable identification (such as a valid passport or military ID) to board a domestic commercial flight or enter a federal building or military installation that requires ID.

Real ID is coming!

I recently held a Telephone Town Hall that featured Sarah Baker, REAL ID Program Manager at PennDOT. Residents were able to ask Sarah and me questions as well as listen to a discussion about important issues in the district and around the state. Throughout the year, I plan on having more of these Town Halls (over the phone and in-person) to discuss REAL ID and other issues.

To learn more about REAL ID, visit senatorstevesantarsiero.com/realid.
